In late May, GamesVoice re-announced Russian voice acting for the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty (or “Phantom Liberty”) expansion. Several years ago, the initiative had to be curtailed due to objections from CD Projekt RED, but this year the localizers stated that “Representatives of the developer publicly confirmed that our activities do not violate their fan-creation agreement.”
Some players decided to directly ask a CD Projekt RED representative (the Russian-language channel in Telegram is still active), where the administrator stated that the company's stance on fan content has not changed:
We did not give permission for the creation of this voice acting. We do not approve of the commercial use of fan content. Since 2023, when GamesVoice first contacted us, our position on this issue has not changed.
Earlier, GamesVoice warned that if the project to create voice acting for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty falls through, the money would be transferred to the localization of another game — Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. For now, the studio continues to raise 3 million rubles for the expansion's voice acting: in less than a day, the localizers managed to attract several hundred thousand rubles.
