Marvel's Wolverine Will Not Have an Open World - Insomniac Explains the Decision

Marvel's Wolverine will not feature an open world. Insomniac Games confirmed that the game will be a linear single-player adventure. According to the developers, this format is better suited for Wolverine and will allow for a rich story with travels to different corners of the world.

After the Spider-Man games, where players freely explored New York, Insomniac chose a different approach for Logan's story.

Game director Mike Daly explained the project's concept in an interview:

We weren't setting out to make an open-world game or a sandbox. We really wanted to make a compelling, intriguing, linear single-player adventure, and the mission structure reflects that.

According to the developers, unlike Spider-Man, who is closely tied to New York, Logan constantly travels the world in search of answers about his past.

When we asked ourselves how to make the best Wolverine game that truly reflects this character, we remembered that Logan has traveled the world many times. He is driven by the search for his own past and a sense of duty. So we decided that an adventure in different parts of the world is the right approach for this game. Logan is not tied to one place.

However, Marvel’s Wolverine will not be a simple series of fights. Players can expect stealth elements, different ways to approach encounters, additional activities, and collectibles. The game will also feature episodes of exploring locations, interacting with characters, tracking down enemies, and brutally eliminating them.
