The developers reacted to a threat to the in-game economy.

Recently, Grinding Gear Games noticed a new exploit in Path of Exile 2 that could potentially cause significant damage to the in-game economy. The ARPG creators quickly struck down a strategy involving farming through the temple system. With a certain configuration, players could preserve valuable zones longer than the developers intended, allowing them to obtain a huge amount of loot, including Divine Orbs.

Update 0.5.0b includes a number of temple changes:

  • Removed a hidden modifier for the chance of magic and rare monsters appearing in the Temple, added to compensate for the absence of the Atlas passive skill tree in version 0.4.0. Now that it's there, it's no longer needed and caused every monster pack to appear as rare.
  • Reduced bonuses from Temple modifiers applied by Tier 3 and 4 rooms to better account for investments in the Atlas passive skill tree.
  • Reduced the effect of Temple modifiers from the Atlas passive skills Power Relays, Efficient Arteries, and Shipokado's Machinations.
  • Increased the number of destabilizing rooms to better account for investments in small passive skills in the Atlas passive skill tree.

The authors of Path of Exile 2 also introduced a major update 0.5.1. The developers talked about adding additional passive skills to the upper segment of the Atlas tree, specifically affecting individual biomes. In addition, they introduced dozens of new elemental passive skills near gem sockets, mainly around the Sorceress/Witch and Druid areas on the skill tree.

Some other changes and novelties:

  • Added a new dynastic support gem: Atziri's Communion.
  • Towers, gates, puzzle rooms, and fortress halls now grant more Atlas passive skill points. Players who have already completed these areas will receive additional passive skill points upon logging in.
  • Reduced damage, rewards, and experience from Abyss elite monsters, while also significantly reducing their health pool.
  • Fixed a bug where the property of gaining attack damage as extra physical damage on Stone Gauntlets did not work until the gloves also had the property of gaining attack damage as extra lightning damage.
