At the "XBOX Games Showcase 2026" presentation, the development of a new game about the dragon's adventures was confirmed. The project was named Spyro: A Realm Beyond.

The developer is Toys for Bob studio – they previously made Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and also created the collection of updated games Spyro Reignited Trilogy.

Studio head Paul Yan gave an interview and spoke about Spyro's design – it went through "countless" iterations and the game's creators discussed it with the creators of the original projects:

Visually, we’ve made some subtle changes to show that he’s matured since we last saw him – in particular, we’ve increased his wingspan to make him much more capable in flight. But this is still the same Spyro you know and love, and that’s why we’re so excited that Tom Kenny is voicing him again! His acting conveys the cheeky youthful boldness that is an important part of Spyro’s character.

He also spoke about changing the flight mechanics – Spyro will be able to truly fly freely:

In classic games, Spyro could gently glide after jumps and, in a few separate mini-levels, fly, but there was a time limit. I always wondered what would happen if these two types of gameplay were somehow combined into Spyro's main set of abilities. This question is at the heart of Spyro: A Realm Beyond's design ambitions. As we began to explore this idea more deeply, it quickly became clear that this was the right step in Spyro's evolution – to take to the skies and fully master flight.

You can add Spyro: A Realm Beyond to your Steam wishlist at the following link. The release is scheduled for spring 2027 – not only on PC, but also on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 consoles.
