A new installment of the God of War franchise was recently announced. This time, the focus will not be on Kratos's adventures.

Santa Monica Studio will tell the story of Kratos's wife, Laufey (Faye), in GoW Laufey. Death became the beginning of a whole new adventure for her:

Suddenly awakening after death in a strange place, Faye learns that the protection she prepared for Kratos and Atreus is now under threat.

God of War Laufey game director Ariel Lawrence spoke with GamesRadar+, and the journalist asked if the developers at Santa Monica had considered the idea of allowing players to encounter previously killed gods.

She didn't say anything specific but noted that if old gods were to return, they would have to fit into the game's story:

I think that's definitely one of the options for a franchise where so many gods have been killed [...] But we want to make sure that all the characters you meet in the game really fit into the story. I won't make any promises about how many of [the killed gods] you might encounter, but yes, I think as a possibility... it's a very real option.

GameSpot journalists decided to recall past God of War installments and compiled a list of gods that players could potentially encounter in God of War Laufey:

  • Ares
  • Athena
  • Persephone
  • Hades
  • Poseidon
  • Gaia
  • Helios
  • Hephaestus
  • Hermes
  • Cronos
  • Hera
  • Zeus
  • Baldur
  • Modi
  • Magni
  • Heimdall
  • Thor
  • Odin

Earlier, the announcement of God of War Laufey sparked heated debates online. Specialists from Santa Monica Studio acknowledge the criticism and view it as a form of motivation.
