The developers confirmed that the remake of the first Tomb Raider does not reboot Lara Croft's story, but continues it after the events of the modern Survivor trilogy.

This was stated by Jeff Adams from Crystal Dynamics in an interview with IGN. According to him, the events of Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider remain part of a single canon, and in Legacy of Atlantis, players will see the same Lara Croft, but as an experienced adventurer.

The remake of the classic 1996 game will not be a standalone reboot. The project will continue the heroine's story after the Survivor trilogy.

At the same time, the developers emphasize that the game is being created with a new audience in mind. Familiarity with previous installments will not be required to understand the plot.

New information also raises questions about the future of the entire franchise. If the events of the first Tomb Raider are now considered canonical in relation to the Survivor trilogy, other parts of the original trilogy may receive a similar status in the future.
