The GOA board game project by game designer Rüdiger Dorn, first released in 2004, has become a cult eurogame, known for its elegant combination of auctions, resource management, and more. It ranks 314th among all games on the BGG portal and 206th among strategy games.
Additionally, GOA will return in the future as a Master Print edition with updated illustrations, a new solo mode, and improved gameplay. Today, the publisher 4ies (4Games) announced that it will localize this revival of a modern classic.
The team will bring a small print run for connoisseurs of "oldies," but three versions of the game. Expect the base game in a standard edition and a mini-expansion for pre-order participants, as well as a single print run of the Master Print Edition deluxe version with three-layer player boards in two variants: GOA Merchant Edition with wooden tokens and GOA Governor Edition with acrylic tokens.
Pre-orders are likely to open in August 2026. The game GOA, designed for 1–4 players, will transport gamers to the early 16th century and introduce them to a city where merchants from India, Arabia, Africa, and Europe gathered to exchange spices, textiles, precious goods, and knowledge.
During a game session, which lasts approximately 90 minutes, players will develop their trading operations, acquire ships, conclude trade contracts, expand plantations, and advance along several progress tracks. In each round, users participate in auctions to gain access to various actions.
GOA offers several paths to victory, rewarding flexible strategies and thoughtful planning (allocating resources, progress, and influence) rather than tactical luck.
