New Tomb Raider to Abandon Brutality of Survivor Trilogy
Leaked gameplay fragments of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis hint at a noticeable shift in the series' tone. The game will be less brutal than the Survivor trilogy, and developers have abandoned the depiction of detailed deaths of Lara Croft.
Gameplay footage of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis has been leaked online. According to it, the project will be a link between the young Lara Croft from the reboot and her classic image from the early installments of the series.
The video shows Lara's fight with a tyrannosaurus. When the player provokes defeat and allows the beast to attack the heroine, the screen quickly darkens and goes black before anything brutal happens. Thus, Crystal Dynamics abandoned showing the heroine's death on screen.
This is noticeably different from Tomb Raider 2013. Back then, player mistakes were accompanied by realistic and often shocking death animations, for which the game was criticized for excessive brutality.
According to the leak, the new installment will also feature a brighter color palette and will rely more on classic elements of the series than on the dark style of the Survivor trilogy.
