Project Helix is attracting attention due to its alleged technical capabilities and new approaches to console sales. However, it is claimed that savings may not only apply to the device's specifications.
Windows Central journalist Jez Corden said that Microsoft is looking for ways to cut production costs. According to him, Project Helix might be sold without a controller.
Someone told me that Steam Machines would be sold without a controller. I already have ten Xbox gamepads lying around unused. Personally, I don't need the next Xbox to come with a controller. I think this would really help reduce the cost.
Corden, however, emphasized that this is only his assumption, not confirmed information. It was also previously reported that Microsoft is developing new controllers, including a model for cloud gaming. It is possible that existing Xbox gamepads will remain compatible with Project Helix, and a new proprietary controller will have to be purchased separately.
