Memory kits and SSDs are becoming more expensive. According to Silicon Motion Vice President Nelson Duann, the situation in the consumer storage segment is becoming critical. He stated:
The retail SSD market has almost ceased to exist.
Duann noted that even major PC manufacturers, including Acer, ASUS, Dell, and HP, are struggling to obtain enough SSDs for their orders.
The main reason is the redirection of NAND Flash and RAM supplies towards corporate clients and data centers, linked to the development of AI.
It is also noted that manufacturers like Samsung are increasingly focusing on the OEM segment, reducing product availability for ordinary consumers.
