Xbox is in talks about the future of several studios - journalist Jason Schreier

Microsoft may close, sell, or spin off several more game studios into separate companies. According to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, changes at Xbox are just beginning.

Schreier stated that discussions about the future of Ninja Theory, Double Fine, and Compulsion Games are only part of a large-scale restructuring. Numerous negotiations and discussions are currently underway within Xbox.

What's happening now is going to be pretty brutal – the people I've spoken to who are aware of the situation call it a "bloodbath." It's going to be bad. The studios I mentioned are just the beginning; there will be more. A lot of negotiations are currently taking place.

The journalist emphasized that the situation is not yet definitively settled. Studio executives continue to discuss the future with Xbox, so reports of closures do not always reflect the full picture.

Schreier believes that some teams may become independent, while others may find new owners or publishers. He attributed the main reason for this to the sharp growth of Microsoft's gaming division after acquiring Activision Blizzard for $69 billion. However, Game Pass did not achieve the expected growth rates, and the company's large investments in AI increased financial pressure on the gaming business.
