Sonic almost disappeared 10 years ago. Unexpected confession from the head of the series
In an interview with GamesRadar+, series director Takashi Iizuka admitted that he once heard from Sega management that he should stop making new Sonic games.
During that period, the franchise was going through difficult times. The developer was given to understand that if he did not go to the USA and help restore the brand's position, the history of Sonic could end.
Now such words sound especially unexpected. Over the years, the series has survived and significantly expanded. New games, movies, TV series, and a lot of related merchandise about Sonic have appeared.
Iizuka also noted the role of fans who continued to support the franchise even during the most difficult periods. Today, Sonic celebrates its 35th anniversary, regularly receives new projects, and develops far beyond the gaming industry.
