Dragon Age Creator Warns of AI Danger to Gaming Industry
David Gaider criticized the hype around generative AI. He believes the technology is unpredictable.
In an interview with GamesRadar, the former BioWare writer, who worked on the first three Dragon Age games, criticized the hype around generative AI. According to him, the technology remains unpredictable, and programmers and artists will constantly have to fix errors. Gaider is confident that the tools are not yet ready for professional use, even though corporate heads would like things to be otherwise.
He sees a particular problem in the disappearance of junior positions. If AI takes over simple tasks, the industry will lose the opportunity to train new specialists.
Other developers share a similar position. Dusk creator David Szymanski pointed out problems with plagiarism, job cuts, and the impact of data centers on the environment. Marvel Rivals producer Danny Koo said his team abandoned image generators due to concerns about copyright infringement.
