Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI recently started, and players learned that the "physical" version of the game would only include a code. Soon, some users contacted Rockstar Games support to clarify whether full disc versions would be available in the future.

A response went viral, which some interpreted as confirmation of future plans for a disc release of GTA VI, but a source for The Hollywood Reporter said otherwise.

The response was misinterpreted by an enthusiastic online audience, said our source familiar with Rockstar Game / Take-Two's plans. There are currently no plans to release a disc version of Grand Theft Auto VI – neither at launch nor "months" after. The use of the phrase "physical copy" in the letter refers to the same "physical version" (code in a box) that was announced earlier [...].

According to The Hollywood Reporter journalist, Rockstar Games' decision to release Grand Theft Auto VI only in digital format is a "death sentence" for the physical media industry.

GTA VI is expected to be released in November of this year.
