Steam Machine Inherited Steam Deck's Problem - Some Hits Don't Work

Steam Machine inherited Steam Deck's main drawback: anti-cheat system incompatibility with Linux.

Steam Machine retained one of Steam Deck's key limitations – the incompatibility of some online games with the anti-cheat system on SteamOS.

Some popular multiplayer games do not launch on the device due to anti-cheat system incompatibility with Linux. As a result, Steam Machine owners will not be able to play some major hits like Fortnite and Destiny 2, despite the device's sufficient performance.

However, not all online games are subject to this limitation. Some projects work without problems, and some developers have adapted their games for SteamOS. Examples include Halo: The Master Chief Collection, where campaigns and modes without active anti-cheat are available.

Theoretically, the problem can be circumvented by installing Windows – either as the primary system or via a dual-boot system. This allows problematic games to be launched and, for example, PC Game Pass to be used. This option has its downsides – it reduces the advantages of SteamOS and can affect performance and optimization.
