Rockstar Games and Take-Two recently opened pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI. However, the companies have not yet disclosed official data on the number of copies sold for the new installment of the franchise.

Initially, the game will be available on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, and users cannot see "sales figures" in the Microsoft Store and PlayStation Store. Nevertheless, some insiders and journalists online are making predictions and statements about the ratio of pre-orders on Sony and Microsoft platforms, based on their own data.

For example, an IGN publication went viral. According to their data from affiliate link programs and the IGN Finds section, "PlayStation is ahead of Xbox by a ratio of 8 to 1."

Some players immediately extrapolated this ratio to absolute sales, claiming that PS5 has already surpassed Xbox eightfold in Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders.

The Xbox team reacted to these discussions and told Windows Central that this "does not reflect pre-order data":

We have record orders. It's worth waiting for real data, rather than focusing on clicks on affiliate links.

The Xbox representative did not specify what these "record orders" imply (quantity, speed, reaching a certain milestone, etc. — unknown).

Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be released in November of this year exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 consoles. The developers have not yet announced the release date for the PC version of the game.
