Currently, players can pre-order the standard and Ultimate editions of GTA VI. However, for the physical version, buyers receive a box with a code to download the game, without a data disc.
Earlier, there were rumors that a full disc edition would be released several months after the initial launch. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rockstar does not plan to release GTA VI on physical media either at launch or later.
The decision provoked a negative reaction from some retailers. The British chain Loot Box Gaming stated that it would not sell the game if the information about a “box with a code” is confirmed. A similar position was taken by the Canadian VGP, which fundamentally does not sell physical editions without discs.
Sellers noted that such versions do not preserve the idea of physical ownership of the game. According to them, a digital license is not equivalent to a full purchase, while many consider disc editions a more reliable form of game storage.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
