This summer, at the Xbox show, id Software studio presented a story expansion for the shooter DOOM: The Dark Ages. It is called Revelations.
Recently, IGN journalists presented a preview and talked about the expansion. For example, it became known that completing the Revelations expansion will take approximately 10-12 hours.
For comparison, according to HowLongToBeat, where players share their completion times, a full playthrough of the DOOM Eternal "The Ancient Gods" expansions took from 5 to 7 and a half hours.
According to the plot of Revelations, after experiencing betrayal, a severely wounded Slayer finds himself in a "horrific purgatory" where he must uncover secrets and regain his former strength with the help of a "new mysterious ally." In this expansion, the protagonist will get a new weapon, the Chain Spear, which has a grappling hook ability, meaning the player can use it for aerial maneuvers.
According to the journalist, one of the techniques "allows you to literally circle in the air, impaling an enemy with a chain, while simultaneously attacking them." Unique glory kills will be associated with this spear, and it will be necessary for survival in endgame content.
A total of six new locations can be visited: five levels and a "purgatory" hub. The locations are designed in a Metroidvania style, meaning that by returning, players can use acquired abilities to unlock new secrets.
