Despite Absolum's success, French studio Supamonks, responsible for the game's visual style, is in the process of liquidation. The game sold over 500,000 copies.
The information was confirmed by a decision of the Commercial Court of Créteil, France, on June 24. The reasons for the bankruptcy have not yet been disclosed.
Absolum was released in October 2025. Dotemu and Guard Crush Games, the creators of Streets of Rage 4, worked on the game, while Supamonks was responsible for its distinctive hand-drawn animation. The project proved successful with both players and commercially: sales exceeded 200,000 copies in the first week alone.
The closure of the studio has cast doubt on the future of the franchise. Previously, Dotemu planned to release an animated series based on Absolum in collaboration with Supamonks. It is currently unknown whether another studio will take on the project or if it will be canceled entirely.
