In early June, Sony announced that it would stop releasing games on discs for PlayStation. Some console owners were very unhappy and are now trying to use financial leverage to convince the company to reconsider its decision.

Users, like mrpyo1, have started organizing a kind of boycott of the premium PlayStation Plus subscription. They are posting instructions on forums and social media on how to cancel subscriptions:

Keep spreading the word and don't let SONY get away with it! If you want your voice to truly be heard by PlayStation, cancel your PlayStation Plus subscription!

According to the protesters, this way they can clearly show Sony managers that there is still significant demand for physical copies of games.

Notably, when justifying its decision to stop releasing discs, Sony cited changes in consumer preferences:

As consumer preferences and the entertainment industry as a whole continue to shift from physical to digital media, the production of physical game discs for all new games released on PlayStation consoles will cease starting in January 2028.

Some analysts suggest that gamers themselves are to blame for what happened — many online talk about the importance of physical copies, but in practice, they were bought very rarely.
