Sony's abandonment of discs had an unexpected effect - players massively interested in PS5 jailbreaking
Following Sony's announcement to abandon physical games from 2028 and amid the closure of the PlayStation Store on older consoles, interest in PS5 jailbreaking has sharply increased.
After Sony's announcement to stop releasing physical games from 2028, interest in PS5 jailbreaking has significantly increased. According to Google, in the last 24 hours, the number of search queries for "PS5 jailbreak" has risen by approximately 20%.
Rumors about the possibility of jailbreaking the console appeared as early as the beginning of 2026. At that time, hackers found a way to gain access to the system using one of the physical "Star Wars" games. Within six months, several jailbreaking methods emerged, primarily for consoles with early firmware versions. Users install file managers, expand the system's multimedia capabilities, and launch games.
Comments related to Sony's recent decision to abandon physical editions began to appear under videos about PS5 jailbreaking. Some users stated that they would no longer support the company, while others openly wrote about switching to piracy.
The traffic to the PS5 Jailbreak community on Reddit has grown by approximately 10,000 users per week since late May. Simultaneously, the "Star Wars" game, necessary for one of the jailbreaking methods, has also increased in price: if in January it cost about $250, its price now reaches $300–400.
