Fan remake of Heroes of Might and Magic II received update 1.1.17 - with AI hero improvements, Russian localization, and other refinements

Fans of "Heroes" are improving the classic on their own.

The creators of fheroes2 announced the release of update 1.1.17 in early July. This project is positioned as a multiplatform remake of the classic Heroes of Might and Magic II.

In this update, the developers introduced an automatic map testing mode. Map creators gained the ability to run scenarios with AI players and observe their behavior to make decisions on how to refine their project.

Modders note that "such an opportunity did not exist in any game in the Heroes of Might and Magic series" and they hope that this option will help in testing the engine and creating new maps.

They also added switching between objects of the same group using the mouse wheel. This will speed up object selection without the need to open the full list every time.

Modders reported that the artificial intelligence received significant improvements:

AI heroes have started making more informed decisions on the adventure map, staying in castles at the end of a turn to gain a movement bonus, better handling summoned phantoms in combat, and correctly using the "Teleport" spell on creatures under the effect of "Berserk". In addition, it was possible to further speed up AI turns without any changes in its behavior logic.

In addition, various bugs were fixed in fheroes2, modders accelerated game startup, optimized RAM usage, and updated the Russian translation.

The "fheroes2" project is distributed free of charge and published on GitHub (ihhub repository). The full list of changes in update 1.1.17 is available at the following link.
