Insider Rebs Gaming claims that a multiplayer project set in the Halo universe, codenamed Project Ekur, is no longer in development, despite previously being considered one of the most important parts of Microsoft's plans for the franchise. The information was reportedly confirmed by studio employees.

Development began at Certain Affinity, which created early prototypes. Later, documentation and further work on the game were transferred to the main Halo Studios team. Over the past year, developers have been working on creating key systems and mechanics.

The situation changed in the summer when the company began restructuring. Some employees were reassigned to assist in the development of Halo: Campaign Evolved, which put an end to Project Ekur's fate.

There has been no official confirmation of the cancellation yet.
