According to Windows Central journalist Jez Corden, Xbox head Asha Sharma wants to abandon the Project Latitude strategy, which was responsible for releasing Microsoft games on PlayStation and other devices. Now the company intends to focus on developing its own ecosystem.
At the Xbox Games Showcase, it was confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be exclusive to Xbox consoles. According to Corden, this is just the beginning: Microsoft is considering keeping future major single-player games only on its consoles. In this case, even new installments of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls could become exclusives.
The reason for the changes is the desire to strengthen the Xbox ecosystem. Xbox console owners spend up to four times more on Microsoft games and services than users of other platforms.
The company also wants to more actively use its main brands to promote consoles. The new leadership believes that with rising device prices, exclusive games can once again become the main argument when buying an Xbox.
