In July, gamers once again remembered Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition. The remasters of the trilogy games were previously criticized due to a significant number of various technical problems and other shortcomings.
The reason for this was an interview with the head of the development studio Grove Street Games, Thomas Williamson. During the conversation, the head noted that players enjoyed the remasters – their internal metrics indicate this (he did not name specific figures):
If you look at the internal metrics for these games, you can see: a lot of people played [the remasters] and really enjoyed them.
At the same time, Thomas admits that the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition collection had problems at launch. The developer agrees with the criticism and expressed the opinion that they should have reacted differently to feedback, and the games should have been refined:
[among players] there were also many who expected more – and I don't blame them for that. We all perceive these games as extremely important milestones in the history of the industry, so I am grateful for the opportunity to work on them.
He also noted that, in his opinion, an “ideal re-release” of GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA San Andreas is impossible without the full participation of Rockstar itself in the development.
