In The Blood of Dawnwalker, the developers decided to add a time limit. The hero's main goal is to save his family within 30 days and nights.
The time limit will decrease after certain decisions are made. However, the game will not end even after the timer expires, and players can continue to explore the content, but in this case, they will not get the "best ending."
The very fact of such a limitation is very disliked by some players. In a recent interview, screenwriter Jakub Szamalek spoke on this topic.
Answering a question about whether such a limitation would put players who prefer to complete all side content first at a disadvantage, Jakub said he hopes these players will "step out of their comfort zone":
I wouldn't say that [the time limit] puts players at an inherent disadvantage, but I would recommend, even for perfectionists, to play the game twice to truly see everything. I understand that for people accustomed to playing a certain way, this might mean having to step out of their comfort zone. But I believe that it is precisely when you leave your comfort zone that growth and new experiences happen.
The screenwriter explained that the time limit in The Blood of Dawnwalker was introduced because open-world RPGs often "lack a sense of urgency":
You are given a very important mission, but at the same time, everything can be put "on pause" and you can explore the world as much as you want. As a result, you stop feeling the urgency of your task. We wanted to bring back that feeling and increase players' engagement in the main story.
