Sony's decision to stop releasing new PlayStation games on physical media from 2028 has caused widespread discontent among players. The "Don't Kill the Disc" petition, published on Change.org, has already gathered over 240,000 signatures.

The campaign emerged after the announcement that from January 2028, all new PlayStation releases will only be available in digital format. Games released before this date will not be affected by the changes.

The petition's authors note that a disc is not just a medium. A physical copy can be borrowed, resold, traded, given as a gift, or kept in a collection. Boxes with download codes do not give a sense of ownership of the game and tie users to digital licenses.

Campaign participants believe that abandoning physical editions will harm stores, distributors, collectors, and the used games market.
