Expansive Worlds and Avalanche Studios announced in July that the servers for the hunting simulator theHunter Classic would soon be shut down:

After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to say goodbye to theHunter Classic. Faced with a shrinking player base, we can no longer financially support active development.

The project was positioned as "the most realistic hunting game ever created." Players were offered various weapon models—from crossbows to shotguns—and could track dozens of realistic animal species, "whose appearance and behavior are recreated with incredible accuracy."

theHunter Classic will be closed on November 11, 2026. The developers plan to celebrate Halloween one last time with a themed event starting on October 28:

Thank you for being a part of this journey and staying with us all these years—for many of you, it's a significant part of your life. We sincerely appreciate it.

The theHunter Classic page on Steam is available at the following link. A free "Extra Equipment" add-on is also available for the game on Valve's service.
