Following the wave of layoffs at Xbox, new details are emerging about Microsoft's canceled projects. According to GamesBeat, id Software, known for DOOM and Quake, presented several new ideas to the company before the restructuring.
Among them was a completely new version of Perfect Dark – a project that never received approval. The game emerged after the cancellation of the series' reboot by the later-closed studio The Initiative. The id Software team even prepared concepts for a new version of the cult franchise, but Xbox management decided not to proceed with the work.
Also, DOOM director Hugo Martin proposed a new game codenamed Fury.
Other ideas were canceled — a Western-themed robot game with survival elements, as well as new cooperative modes and expansions for DOOM.
According to sources, after Xbox changed its strategy, the company decided to focus only on Microsoft's largest brands. The situation was exacerbated by layoffs: up to 136 employees were dismissed at id Software.
