Sony's decision to stop releasing games on physical media has caused significant dissatisfaction among PlayStation's most dedicated fans. According to a Push Square survey, which involved over 6,500 people, 45% of enthusiastic gamers are seriously considering abandoning the PlayStation ecosystem in favor of PC.
At the same time, only 23% of respondents stated that they would remain fully loyal to the Japanese company after a series of controversial decisions that have damaged its reputation in the current generation.
The main reason for a potential departure was the announcement of a gradual abandonment of physical media – this option was chosen by 41% of survey participants. Despite the fact that PC platforms, such as Steam, are also focused on digital distribution, users believe that stores work better there, there is a more favorable refund policy, and there is no price monopoly of the closed PlayStation Store.
Additional concerns are raised by the possible price of the PS6. If, due to the crisis in the RAM market, the console actually costs around $1000, 29% of respondents will prefer to build or buy a gaming PC. The same number intend to stick with the PS5. Only 14% are ready to purchase the PS6 on release day.
The survey authors note that the results reflect the opinion of the most active PlayStation fans, not the mass audience.
