Why hasn't Rockstar released a GTA IV remaster yet? A blogger asked Roman Bellic's voice actor
Fans have long been calling on Rockstar Games to make a remaster, but so far there are only unofficial solutions from enthusiasts.
After the release of the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition remaster collection, some fans suggested that Rockstar Games might return to GTA IV. However, several years have passed: during this time, the first part of Red Dead Redemption made its way to PC, but there is still no GTA IV remaster.
Recently, the author of the YouTube channel Love it Film interviewed Jason Zumwalt, the voice actor for Roman Bellic.
Recently, Roman Bellic's voice actor gave an interview to the author of the YouTube channel Love it Film. During the conversation, he asked Jason Zumwalt if he would like to see a GTA IV remaster:
I would like to [see a remaster] too. I think they could do it. You know, the graphics still hold up well: all these movements, animations... Everything still works great. I don't know why they haven't done it yet. Maybe it's somehow related to SAG [Screen Actors Guild] contracts. Maybe they don't want to stir up that hornet's nest [...]
Jason is referring to the story when the actor who played Niko stated that he was paid only $100,000 for more than a year of work. At the time, he said in an interview:
Obviously, I'm incredibly grateful to Rockstar for the opportunity to be in this game when I was nobody. However, it's hard to see Grand Theft Auto IV now at the peak of its popularity, earning hundreds of millions of dollars, and we get nothing from it. I don't blame Rockstar, I blame our union for not making agreements that would protect the people behind the sales of these games. Yes, technology is important, but it's the human [acting] performance within them — that's what people truly connect with, and I hope that actors will receive more respect for the work they do within these technologies.
Jason also expressed the opinion that GTA IV has the best story in the entire franchise due to its intimacy:
[...] I think, and I don't think there's any bias on my part, because I constantly hear the same thing from other people: [GTA IV] has the best story [in the franchise], and it's the best because it's the most intimate. The closest to reality. Well, it's just two outcast guys who love each other [like relatives], despite the fact that one of them is constantly getting into trouble and relies on the other to get him out of scrapes. And then there's New York. Well, Liberty City. What's not to like, right?
Rumors about a potential port or remaster of Grand Theft Auto IV have been circulating for a long time. However, no official confirmations have been received from Rockstar Games.
For now, GTA IV fans have various modifications that allow them to improve the graphics. The unofficial RTX remaster "gta4-rtx" is particularly popular — modder xoxor4d is developing the project and continues to release updates that make the game's visuals even better and eliminate various technical problems.
