(18+) Indie developer photographed his sleeping wife and turned her into a monster for a game - she found out and he got a good scolding
Video game creators can find inspiration in the most unexpected places. Recently, the publications of indie developer JOJOJOJOsoft have attracted the attention of gamers.
He is currently working on Billy the Hero, a turn-based RPG set in a dark fantasy world:
Billy woke up on Hell Island in the body of a bear. No memories. No regrets. Apparently, this is his life now. A turn-based Dark Fantasy RPG where math kills, heroines are insane, and the game won't serve you the truth about Billy on a silver platter.
He decided to show the process of creating monsters. One of the designs was inspired by leftover KFC dinner. The developer looked closely and saw potential for a monster in this pile — this is how the step-by-step transition from "reference" (dinner) to the in-game model looks.
Another reference turned out to be his own wife. He took photos while she was sound asleep, and then began to create:
I cut out the faces and assembled the basic shape, as I planned to use the morning sunlight. This will make it easier to combine the images. Then I desaturated all colors to grayscale, then overlaid color to adjust lighting and shadows, and added “raw” textures. A monster in a horror needs blood. I added a little red to the depressions, drew veins, tendons, and fleshy connections.
The full image can be found here (18+).
Then the developer got it from his wife — she stepped on him. He joked: “This is the monster that took me the longest to create… mainly because this relationship has been maturing for over 20 years!”.
