According to S&P Global Market Intelligence Kagan's forecast, PS5 will outsell Xbox Series X|S by more than five times in 2026.
Xbox continues to face challenges in the current console generation. According to the forecast of S&P Global Market Intelligence Kagan analysts, in 2026, Sony will ship approximately 13.2 million PS5 units, while Xbox Series X|S will only reach 2.5 million devices. This means a more than fivefold advantage for PS5.
However, Sony also has its own problems. The company raised prices for all PS5 models due to the situation in the memory and storage market, and console sales are lagging behind PS4's performance at a similar stage of its lifecycle. Nevertheless, PlayStation remains the market leader.
The situation with Xbox looks more complicated. In 2025, the Series family had its worst sales year, and in the first quarter of 2026, shipments fell below 500,000 units. Analysts attribute this to an ambiguous game lineup, reliance on Xbox Game Pass, and the high cost of consoles.
According to the report, Microsoft is gradually preparing to end the lifecycle of Series X|S and make way for the next device, codenamed Project Helix. It is expected to combine console and PC experiences while maintaining backward compatibility. However, its high price may make it a product for the most dedicated players.
