Journalist Lee Ki-jeong from ZDNet Korea received data from three industry sources. According to them, the development of the Switch 2 OLED could begin in 2026, with mass production starting in late 2027 or early 2028.
One of the sources stated:
Nintendo is considering releasing the Switch 2 OLED with an increased resolution from HD (1280×720) on the Switch 1 OLED model to FHD (1920×1080). If the decision to release the Switch 2 OLED is made, there is a possibility that product development will begin later this year.
Another source noted that Nintendo has not yet confirmed the release due to the cost difference between OLED and LCD panels. It is also reported that Samsung Display is interested in supplying OLED screens for the new model.
The main question remains the price. Nintendo has already increased the price of the Switch 2 by $50 in the US due to rising component costs. Analysts believe that the OLED version could be even more expensive.
