GOOD FUN CORPORATION studio is developing Hunger. The authors describe their project as a first-person PvPvE horror with elements of a shooter, slasher, and role-playing game.
In a recent interview, Hunger Game Director Max Rea explained the developers' vision and noted that they "tried to position the game more as an extraction shooter in the spirit of The Elder Scrolls." The idea is that their game still has a certain depth, but at the same time should feel intuitive for those who have already played Morrowind, Skyrim, or similar projects. That is, instead of "hardcore extraction," players will be offered a more accessible project.
The authors of Hunger have thoroughly studied other extraction projects on the market and decided to shift progression from equipment to the RPG component:
We've been playing extraction shooters for a long time and enjoy them greatly, and essentially viewed them as an almost roguelike interpretation of what would otherwise be a linear gameplay experience. We wanted to make our own version, adding more elements, removing the "backbone" of progression tied to equipment, as it is done in "Tarkov," and moving it into what we like – into RPGs, character development, and skill trees.
The Hunger development team has many World of Warcraft fans, which is reflected in their project. For example, professions will encourage players to rely on each other to create powerful equipment. "You work with friends, perhaps in a guild, and can craft [items] for each other."
The developers like the idea of constantly developing their heroes: Wipes in "Tarkov" were more of an accident – something they had to do due to the peculiarities of their infrastructure, but it's hard to imagine "resetting" a character in World of Warcraft or some RPG [...] You just create a new character if you want a different gameplay experience.
