PC gamer made "physical copies" of Steam games - they launch from SSD cartridges

After Sony's refusal to release PlayStation games on discs, a discussion about the importance of "physical copies" has resumed online. PC games have not been released on discs for a long time, but some would like to have a physical copy: some projects "weigh" a lot – they are inconvenient to download, and space on SSD drives is limited.

A tech enthusiast under the nickname Jibril-sama presented an interesting solution to the PC community, which he called "Steam Game Cartridges."

The idea is to take inexpensive "2.5" SSD" drives and record game distributions on them, and then launch them using a script when connected to a computer: "The games are actually stored on these SSDs, and the script automatically opens the game page on Steam. You can also set up automatic game launch immediately."

Jibril-sama used several used cartridges for his "Steam Game Cartridges" project, which cost him 8 dollars apiece. The volume of such mini-SSD drives is 128 GB, which is enough for many modern games.

He additionally decorated his cartridges with game covers – externally they resemble physical copies of games for Nintendo Switch.
