GOG saved a classic: Thief: Gold now works better on modern PCs

GOG released the first Preservation Program project chosen by players via Patron Vote - Thief: Gold.

GOG continues to develop the Preservation Program and has added Thief: Gold to it. The famous stealth-action game from Looking Glass Studios has received an update.

The game became the first project chosen by users through the Patron Vote. The Preservation Program version improved compatibility with new operating systems, UI scaling, updated graphics and sound settings, and support for the NewDark 1.27 engine.

The main innovation was full support for modern controllers. Thanks to cooperation with Gamepad Mod author Peter Wright and GOG Input Wrapper technology, the game now works with PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Logitech, and Amazon Luna gamepads. Button customization and vibration support have also been added.

The package includes the original version of Thief: The Dark Project, available directly from the launcher, and new localizations.

GOG noted that the update was created for compatibility with modern hardware and as a sign of respect for the work of the fan community. Players will choose the next Preservation Program project from Nox, Lands of Lore 1 & 2, Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor, Silver, and Albion.
