In July, "Gothic" fans noticed that publisher THQ Nordic updated the franchise's games section on its website. The third installment was renamed Gothic 3 Classic.
Some speculated that the "Classic" suffix appeared because the company was preparing to announce a remake, and a page for a new version of "Gothic 3" would supposedly soon appear in the store. This theory quickly spread in the gaming community, as the release of Gothic 1 Remake was successfully held this summer, with over 500,000 copies sold.
It got to the point where THQ Nordic had to respond to such rumors. The publisher commented: it denied the development of a Gothic 3 remake – a technical change was made on the website, it means nothing.
The Gothic 3 page on Steam has not yet been renamed; the game retains its old name without "Classic".
If a remake of "Gothic 3" ever appears, it is likely that Alkimia Interactive studio will first make Gothic 2 Remake (such a project has not yet been announced either).
The current Gothic 1 Remake received "very positive" reviews on Steam. After 35 thousand reviews, the project's rating was 88%.
