Clockwork Revolution from Fallout co-creator will ditch hints - developers trust players
Brian Fargo stated that in Clockwork Revolution, the player's companion will not obtrusively hint at obvious things.
In many games, companions constantly prompt players on the next steps and comment on obvious situations. The head of inXile Entertainment and co-creator of the Fallout series, Brian Fargo, considers this approach a mistake.
Clockwork Revolution will be different. Answering fan questions about the companion who will accompany the player, Fargo stated that he does not want to annoy users with unnecessary hints.
According to him, he "hates companions who point out obvious things as if players are stupid."
The companion in Clockwork Revolution will only speak when they can provide useful information or say something funny. The developers deliberately limited the number of dialogues so that after completing the game, players would rather regret that the character spoke too rarely, rather than too often.
Fargo noted that he has adhered to this approach since the 1980s. In his opinion, classic games trusted players more and allowed them to explore the world independently. Clockwork Revolution is scheduled for release in 2027.
