The developers of 007 First Light from IO Interactive revealed that in the early stages of the game's creation, they tested much crazier gadgets for James Bond. Some ideas were removed so that the agent wouldn't resemble "Inspector Gadget."
Producer Tom Marcham said that among the cut concepts were an alligator-shaped submarine, a flamethrower bagpipe, and a portable music player with a built-in rocket launcher. After testing, the team decided that such devices were more likely to create a comedic effect than an atmosphere of a spy thriller.
The developers opted for a more realistic style and classic spy equipment that supports a tactical approach to missions. This also allowed them to enhance the role of hand-to-hand combat.
However, gadgets will not completely disappear. IO Interactive plans to add new tools that will expand gameplay options and remain within Bond's image.
