Marathon director Joseph Ziegler announced that he completed his work at Bungie on July 17. The developer stated he is seeking a new professional challenge.
Ziegler's departure marks a significant change for the project. He took over the development of Marathon after moving from Riot Games, where he spent over ten years.
Bungie has already appointed a new game director — Del Chafe III, who has been with the studio for 15 years and served as deputy project director since last year. Julia Nardin remains responsible for the creative direction.
Ziegler assured that Marathon is in good shape — the team is preparing updates and new content. According to him, work on the game continues, and players can expect many surprises.
The developer's departure occurred shortly after another wave of layoffs at Bungie, affecting about 300 employees. The studio's head, Justin Truman, also left. Amidst constant reshuffles, Marathon's future remains one of the main uncertainties in PlayStation's portfolio.
