The European Union is ready to approve the acquisition of Electronic Arts. Will the Saudis buy Electronic Arts?

The intention to acquire the owner of the EA Sports FC, Battlefield, The Sims, and Need for Speed brands was announced in September 2025. The acquisition is being organized by a consortium that includes Saudi Arabia's PIF, Affinity Partners, and the Silver Lake investment fund.

According to Reuters sources, the European Commission is ready to approve the deal thanks to EU rules governing foreign subsidies.

The official decision will be announced on July 30, 2026, after the preliminary review is completed.

If the forecasts are confirmed, this will be another important step towards completing one of the largest deals in the history of the gaming industry. The consortium will still need to obtain approvals from other regulatory bodies.
