In early July, Sony announced that it would stop releasing PlayStation game discs and would begin to gradually close the PlayStation Store digital store on PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3 consoles.
Coincidentally, developers of the PlayStation 3 emulator “RPCS3” recently reported significant progress — most games from the console's library are now “playable” on PC:
75% of all PlayStation 3 games are now PLAYABLE on PC! RPCS3 emulator continues to evolve, receiving new features, fixes and optimization improvements, getting closer to fully preserving the entire PS3 library.
The “playable” status means that you can play with “playable performance” and there are no critical bugs in the game that can break it and prevent you from completing it.
The RPCS3 emulator continues to improve. Previously, the developers implemented a function that will help to automatically perform the setup, and in the foreseeable future, RPCS3 will be able to run games without PlayStation 3 firmware.
Also, various tech enthusiasts are working on emulators for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.
