Recently, gamers drew attention to a new episode of the “Triple Click” podcast. Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier took part in it.

The participants discussed Sony's decision to stop releasing PlayStation game discs, as well as a new round of layoffs at Xbox. During the discussion, the topic of the Game Pass subscription was also touched upon.

According to Schreier, managers are not enthusiastic about this service. They believe that Game Pass devalues games and even harms the gaming industry:

There are a lot of people among studio heads within Xbox who just hate Game Pass and think it has destroyed the value of their games. They think that [Game Pass] has generally devalued games as a product and service, and has become a factor that harms the gaming industry – that's their view, because, in their opinion, it reduces the value of games.

Jason Schreier suggests that in the future, Xbox may abandon Day One Game Pass releases, i.e., they will not add new games on release day: “I think they will continue to develop the service, but at some point, they will simply remove Day One releases because it no longer makes sense.” Only small games and old projects could be left in the subscription, and the rest would be sold.
