Professor Layton creators promise unusual ending amidst AI era

Level-5 President announced that Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will feature the most puzzle-rich story in the series, with an ending themed around the misuse of AI technology.

Level-5 President Akihiro Hino revealed new details about Professor Layton and the New World of Steam. According to him, the game's plot touches upon the theme of AI, and the ending should make players reflect.

This time, the story is about how humanity develops civilization, then begins to misuse new technologies and faces severe consequences. I think in the current AI era, the ending will make people think a little. Overall, I think we've got a very good story.

Hino noted that the developers have preserved the sense of satisfaction after completion, familiar from previous installments, but added more content.

The game will also feature the largest number of puzzles in the series. The QuizKnock team is responsible for their creation.

This is the most puzzle-rich game in the series. Since the release will be worldwide, the puzzles do not use Japanese characters – they are based on interacting with objects, moving objects, weights, and image analysis. They feel like mini-games.

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will be released on PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 by the end of 2026.
