Screen instead of touchpad and new functions: details of the PlayStation controller appeared online
Sony has patented a concept controller with a touchscreen instead of a touchpad and a rotating navigation wheel on magnetic mounts.
A Sony patent has appeared online, describing a concept for an unusual controller that could be used with the PS6 or a new portable device from the company in the future.
The document proposes replacing the familiar touch panel with a compact touchscreen. It can display console menus, settings, notifications, messages, and quick system functions. At the same time, the screen can function as both a display and a physical button with a press.
Another feature of the concept is a rotating navigation wheel, designed for quick menu switching and settings changes. According to the patent, both the screen and the wheel are attached to the controller with magnets, so the user can change their position.
Sony is also considering the possibility of displaying phone calls, messages, and other notifications on the controller. Interacting with them could automatically pause the game.
The existence of a patent does not mean that such a controller will necessarily go on sale.
