The old leather jacket of NVIDIA's CEO has become an expensive collector's item.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's leather jacket was sold at a Sotheby's auction for $960,000. This is 16 times more than the initial estimate of $40,000–$60,000.
45 bidders competed for the lot, placing 65 bids. All proceeds will go to the Edge Institute charity foundation, which supports technology and science professionals.
Huang has been wearing Tom Ford leather jackets, costing around $8,000–$10,000, for over 20 years. This item has become part of his recognizable image, along with presentations of new NVIDIA technologies. It was in this jacket that the company's head spoke at the Hon Hai (Foxconn) Tech Day event in Taipei in 2023. Before the sale, its authenticity was confirmed by PSA specialists, after which Huang left an autograph.
The auction took place from July 7 to July 17, 2026. Huang himself previously joked that he had become "the guy in the leather jacket," and judging by the auction results, this image significantly increased the item's value.
At the same time, the head of NVIDIA is known for large donations: he previously donated $50 million to Oregon State University and $22.5 million to the California College of the Arts.
