After 29 years, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night can be played on PC without an emulator - a fan-made PC port has been released

Recently, PC gamers got a reason to remember the cult metroidvania Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The unofficial PC version of the game has been released – thanks to enthusiasts, it will be possible to play without using a separate emulator.

There's a nuance: this PC port is not based on the original Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for PlayStation 1, PSP, or SEGA Saturn, but on the Xbox 360 version, which has a different final theme and no CG cutscenes (some players are even happy about this).

Gameplay of the PC port is already being published online; for example, blogger Video Game Esoterica showed it:

The unofficial PC port of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is called "NocturneRecomp". The project's source code is publicly available on GitHub in the "birabittoh" repository.

The developer clarified that the build does not include copyrighted content (game code, data, and game assets) – gamers need to provide "their own legally copied game dump."

Recently, another PC port of an Xbox 360 era hit was also released. A tech enthusiast managed to port the shooter Gears of War 2, and now players can complete the campaign without using an emulator.
