In the Resident Evil franchise games, the main character Leon Kennedy is presented in different time periods. Voice actor Nick Apostolides recently spoke about how he approached creating his character's voice.
In a video recorded for a fan, he explained that he listened to heavy music while working: "I draw inspiration for acting from music to get into the right state."
The actor shared that while recording Leon Kennedy's lines for the Resident Evil 2 remake, he "didn't think about it too much," but Apostolides listened to a lot of Nirvana at the time. According to him, their "grunge energy was a good fit for a younger version of Leon."
In the case of the Resident Evil 4 remake, the formation of the voice for a more mature version of Leon Kennedy was influenced by Alice in Chains, particularly "Them Bones" and "Would?", and "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here."
For voicing Resident Evil Requiem, which features the most mature version of Leon, the actor listened to "classic 1980s Metallica":
These very heavy, fast, marching rhythms and all that. I used the song "Orion" a lot. It's my favorite song... it was playing in my head [...]."
The selection of musical compositions helped the voice actor get into the right state to portray different versions of his character.
