Closed Xbox studio Alpha Dog Games returns to life after two years
The creators of Mighty Doom are independent again. This became known from the updated LinkedIn profile of founder Sean Woods.
Two years after Alpha Dog Games was closed by Microsoft, information has emerged that the studio has become independent again. This is evidenced by the updated LinkedIn profile of its founder, Sean Woods.
The profile mentions that Alpha Dog Games has once again become an “independent studio.” The employment history indicates that the change might have occurred as early as May 2025, but this fact only drew attention now.
Alpha Dog Games was acquired by Bethesda in 2019 and came under Xbox management after the acquisition of ZeniMax Media. The studio released Mighty Doom, and in 2024, Microsoft closed it as part of a major restructuring. At the same time, Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks were also closed, and Roundhouse Games became part of ZeniMax Online Studios. Later, Tango Gameworks was saved through an acquisition by Krafton.
It is currently unknown what the revived Alpha Dog Games is working on. Sean Woods did not disclose details, limiting himself to announcing the studio's return to independent status.
